The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) on Wednesday presented its Mid-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) Budget for 2026–2028, totaling Le 576,023,180, at the Ministry of Finance Hall on George Street.
The Honourable Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, David Fortune, highlighted the importance of adequate funding for security services, noting that financial support is crucial to maintain police operations, including visibility, emergency response, community policing, and daily patrols.
Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, expressed satisfaction in presenting the budget, which aligns with the SLP’s Strategic Development Plan. He thanked his team and emphasized that public safety remains the SLP’s top priority, urging government support to ensure smooth implementation.
ACP Alieu Turay, Director of Support Services, underscored security as a cornerstone of national development and outlined key objectives for 2026. These include the rehabilitation and upgrade of the SLP Headquarters, recruitment of 1,000 new officers, acquisition of 35 4×4 vehicles for nationwide patrols, modernization of the garment factory, and provision of camouflage uniforms for the Operations Support Division (OSD).
Director of Budget Services, Mr. Jah, commended the detailed presentation and assured careful consideration of the budget. Stakeholders, including financial analysts, civil society, NGOs, and media representatives, applauded the SLP’s planning and expressed support for its funding request.
The SLP emphasized that adequate financing is essential for effective policing, maintaining law and order, and upholding human rights, reinforcing its commitment to protecting lives and property across Sierra Leone.
