The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) and the Sierra Leone Police, has launched “Operation Push Back,” a coordinated enforcement exercise aimed at removing makeshift structures and illegal encroachments on pedestrian walkways across the Freetown Municipality.

The initiative forms part of ongoing road safety reforms by the SLRSA to restore order, improve public safety, and ensure the free movement of pedestrians along major roads.

According to authorities, the initial phase of the operation is targeting the Central Business District (CBD) and the Western Corridor, areas where pedestrian walkways have been heavily occupied by informal commercial activities.

Officials said the exercise will continue in the coming days until its objectives are achieved.

At the end of the operation, the SLRA and SLRSA are expected to reclaim occupied walkways, improve pedestrian accessibility, enhance road safety, and promote a more organised urban environment for all road users.
