A suspected stolen vehicle was apprehended by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, during routine checks at the Gbalamuya Customs Border Complex Checkpoint.
Detective Police Inspector Alpha Yansaneh, part of the INTERPOL team at the checkpoint, led the operation that occurred at approximately 8:11 PM.
Inspector Yansaneh and his searching team intercepted a white Toyota Hilux with registration number AUH 337, which raised suspicions of being stolen or unlawfully obtained. The driver, identified as Abu Bakarr Koroma from Mile 91 Town, was taken into custody for further questioning.
During the interrogation, Koroma claimed to be a driver for Miro Company, asserting that he is the rightful owner of the vehicle. He is currently being held in custody at the Kambia Police Divisional Headquarters while the investigation continues.
The recovered Toyota Hilux is being treated as an exhibit, and further inquiries are being conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The SLP remains committed to thorough monitoring and enforcement at border crossing points to combat vehicle theft and enhance public safety.
The system is completely broken. The 239+ Vehicles were stolen by government authorities and sold out to civilians and family members across Sierra Leone. This unpatriotic act should not go unpunished. Sierra Leone is a crime scene.
