Alimamy N’jai Sesay has on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 made his first appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngaba of the Pademnba Road Court No 1 for allegedly sharing Adebayor’s audios on social media.

The accused was standing trial on five count charges ranging from sending insulting messages by means of computer system network, sending hatred messages, sending enmity messages by means of computer system network, distributing racist material to the public through computer system and public insult through a computer system, which are all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

The charge sheet indicated that the accused on July 1st, 2022, and Wednesday, August 10, 2022, through social media via WhatsApp and Facebook in Freetown, as an individual, sent insulting messages created by Abdul Will Kamara alias Adebayor against the Government of Sierra Leone by means of computer system and network with intent to provoke the citizens of Sierra Leone to commit the breach of peace. Shortly after the charges were read and explained to the accused, he pleaded not guilty of the offense.

Defense counsel, M. Beratay, made an application for bail on behalf of the accused that, he is a Sierra Leonean resident in Freetown.

He said the accused will neither jump bail nor interfere with the prosecution witnesses.

Meanwhile, police Constable 15152 Harold Turay, who was prosecuting on behalf of the state, said he relied on his affidavit opposing to bail and emphasized the seriousness of the offense charged.

He noted that, if the accused is granted bail, he will jump it.

The accused was remanded in custody until October 17, 2022 for hearing.
