The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the National Tourist Board have trained and distributed start-up kits to 50 women in Shenge.

The skills and entrepreneurship training workshop aimed at providing alternative livelihood for women in coastal risks communities, empower them to be self-reliant and desist from harmful environmental practices.

The programme is supported by UNDP under the Gef Project.

The women were trained on embroidery, gara tie dying and make up skills. Each trainee was given a start-up package of ribbons, beads, lappa, needles, threads, sticker, rubber bucket, rubber bowl, ink, soda, powder, brillion cloth, gloves, variety of small brushes for eye brow and lash, variety of small combs, set of face lotion, setting spray and a token of cash.

While presenting the start-up kits to the 50 beneficiaries at Shenge, officials of the ministry admonished the women to make the most of the training and use the items for the intended purpose.

Adama Koroma, a beneficiary on behalf of her colleagues thanked the Ministry and the trainers for capacitating them with such training and assured that they would use the skills learnt to be self-reliant and help their families.
