The Traffic Management and Road Safety Directorate of the Sierra Leone Police has reported generating over 217,666 Leones in the first quarter of the year through its traffic-related operations.
This revenue, derived from fines, towing, and clamping fees, has been directly deposited into the consolidated fund.
Commissioner Abdul Moijueh, who has overseen an increase in professionalism and accountability within the Directorate, highlighted that daily operations target various traffic offenses. These include driving unlicensed vehicles, operating without valid driver’s licenses, excessive vehicle decoration, overloading, and dangerous driving. Offenders are apprehended, charged, and fined, with required payments accompanied by receipts and documentation.
A significant portion of the revenue was generated through towing operations conducted between March 1 and March 31, 2025, which yielded 104,500 Leones. During this period, 86 vehicles were clamped, resulting in 28,000 Leones in revenue despite four clamps being damaged. Additionally, several vehicles were impounded and taken to the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority’s impound yards.
The total revenue generated in the first quarter, combining general traffic offenses and towing operations, amounts to 217,666 Leones (113,166 Leones + 104,500 Leones).
Commissioner Moijueh emphasized the Directorate’s commitment to enhancing service delivery through interagency collaborations. These efforts align with the vision of Inspector General of Police Mr. William Fayia Sellu, who is focused on ensuring the free flow of traffic and maintaining road safety nationwide.
