The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sierra Leone has invited stakeholders and members of the public to review and provide feedback on the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for the project titled “Support for the Transition of the Sierra Leone Police to a Police Service.”

The ESMP is now available for public inspection and consultation as part of UNDP’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive stakeholder engagement in project implementation.

The project is designed to support the institutional transformation of the Sierra Leone Police into a modern Police Service, with a focus on strengthening governance, improving accountability, and enhancing community-oriented policing.

The Environmental and Social Management Plan outlines potential environmental and social risks associated with project activities and details mitigation measures, monitoring frameworks, and grievance mechanisms aimed at ensuring compliance with environmental safeguards and human rights standards.

Members of the public and stakeholders are encouraged to access the full document via https://bit.ly/4wqJa01 and review the proposed safeguards and implementation arrangements.

UNDP is also accepting written feedback, questions, and concerns through its consultation platform at https://bit.ly/4oY46sB. The deadline for submissions is 30 July 2026.

Commenters are encouraged to include their name and affiliation (or indicate if submitting as an individual), reference specific sections or pages of the ESMP, and provide clear recommendations or additional mitigation measures supported by evidence or local knowledge where applicable.

UNDP noted that submissions which clearly identify concerns and offer practical recommendations will be most useful in strengthening the project’s safeguards.

All feedback received will be reviewed by UNDP Sierra Leone and project partners. A summary of public comments, along with responses from the project team, will be published after the consultation process concludes.
