The current impasse/infighting taking place at the Rokel Commercial Bank to tarnish the character of the bank’s Managing Director, Dr. Ekundayo Walton Gilpin, cannot be under-rated and neither blamed on the RCB Company Secretary, Magaret Davies. Despite the brouhaha which engulfed the best part of early March 2022, the reality is that whilst tempers flared and later waned, there are still certain people within the RCB that are still bent on fomenting trouble in that institution.

Following all the hue and cry since early March this year, it is a matter of fact that much water has passed under the bridge. But the reality is that, what God has blessed, no man can curse.

It is against this background that political pundits and social commentators are of the belief that there are certain people in the RCB who feel that they have a right to take matters into their own hands and to even be the decision-makers in the RCB simply because they have been there, working at the RCB few years before Dr. Ekundayo Walton Gilpin was appointed Managing Director of the bank by President Julius Maada Bio. That notwithstanding, it is now clear that certain staff are bent on destroying the RCB; forgetting the simple fact that they were the very ones who caused the RCB to go down the drain in terms of financial strength and commercial value.

In the last couple of days, there has been a call by lawyers calling for litigation of newspapers and other media institutions that were writing about the alleged sexual assault as reported by a senior staff at the RCB against the RCB Managing Director Dr. Gilpin. As matters now stand, and according to our sources, there was a committee set up to look into the allegations. A certain newspaper which broke the story in the first place was the first newspaper to again report that the allegations against Dr. Gilpin were false and therefore ridiculous.

It is now understood that this committee that was set up is yet to disclose their findings and recommendations. This is what is now giving leeway to the few troublemakers at the RCB to foment more trouble for the poor lady. Be that as it may, truth suppressed shall rise again! Political pundits and social commentators say it is not unreasonable to state that there was indeed an allegation that is yet to be proved and which the investigative committee set up by the Bank of Sierra Leone is looking into. That is, the allegations that were reported by the first newspaper which broke the story. And although that is not a yardstick for other newspapers to follow, the fact is, allegations remain allegations as far as they are yet to be proven.

Thankfully however, Dr. Gilpin being the God-fearing man that he is has maintained his cool and calm and is still working assiduously to raise the standards of the RCB even though he is still facing tremendous challenges from a few despots who believe that they are supposed to be the king-makers at the RCB. These so-called king-makers are forgetting the simple fact that they were there at the RCB decades before Dr. Gilpin came onboard. What did they do at the RCB when Dr. Gilpin was not there?

The answer is that they deliberately and unpatriotically siphoned monies from the bank and virtually succeeded to make the RCB bankrupt to the point that the RCB was described as a non-performing and non-profit-making bank and listed by the National Commission for Privatization (NCP) for onward sale to private entrepreneurs.

Thankfully again, it was because President Bio believed in Dr. Gilpin as a man who has what it takes to turn a drowning institution into a landmark that brought about the re-emergence or rebirth of the RCB.

Now that the plans of the devious staff at RCB that are working and doing their worst or best to discredit Dr. Gilpin of his developmental efforts have been laid to bare, they are now bent on using the alleged accusations against Dr. Gilpin (allegations which have been denounced/debunked) to prick the Company Secretary’s colleagues at her chambers to go for the jugular of journalists that had been writing on the issue and are calling for a retraction.

However, as a press, we can state that we are particularly not impressed with the antics of these few people at the RCB trying to undo the good works of a good man. What we can state here is that we are following the trend and are always ready to do justice to the Company Secretary, the RCB and to the Chambers she belongs because at the end of the day, a few bad eggs cannot and must not be allowed to spoil the many good ones! This in other words means that the general public is yearning for a disclosure to be publicly made about these bad eggs trying to undermine the RCB to the detriment of the RCB shareholders, the government and the people of Sierra Leone at large.

This press is still fighting tooth and nail to unearth these few bad eggs. We can also state that some skeptical minds have begun to name some of these bad eggs but as a press we shall go beyond these skeptics to unearth the real and unadulterated truth of their identities.
We rest our case but please stay tuned
