The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has given reasons as to why WAEC results will no longer be accessed through SMS result checker.
In a letter written to the Minister of Basic Education, David Sengeh in October 2021, WAEC explained how the new SMS result checker system developed by the Ministry of Basic Education could affect the conduct of exams and running of WAEC.
This was why WAEC could not release soft copy of the 2021 Government WASSCE results to the Ministry of Basic Education for it to be processed so candidates can access their results through the SMS system.
WAEC before this time has asked the Ministry of Basic Education to shut down the free SMS Result Checker, stating that the system pose security threats to their result system adding that it also affect their finance system and interfere with their terms of business.
WAEC also warned that the SMS Result Checker by MBSSE violates their business agreement and a continuance of such will attract legal action.
WAEC added that having a system controlled by the government poses doubt to the credibility of the results and that the integrity of the Council will be jeopardized.
It can be recalled that candidates of the 2021 NPSE and BECE accessed their results using the SMS Result Checker by MBSSE, something which many expected to take place with the release of the 2021 school WASSCE results.
This could not happen as expected because of the disagreement between WAEC and the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education.
