The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education (MBSSE), David Moinina Sengeh, has reaffirmed President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to supporting women in governance.

Sengeh made this affirmation statement in a Twitter post following President Bio’s re-election on Tuesday.

“As our new government is being formed, we will see more women in government than ever,” he stated.

He noted that Sierra Leone is about to enter a new era for women in government with President Bio’s re-election by Sierra Leoneans.

He also mentioned that in their previous administration, President Bio passed a law requiring a minimum of 30% women in all appointments, which he reaffirmed would be implemented in the next administration.

On Tuesday, the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh announced that President Bio was re-elected with 56.17 percent of votes cast, and his top rival Samura Kamara, of the All People’s Congress (APC), came second with 41.16 percent. However, Kamara was quick to reject the results, citing a lack of transparency in the tabulation of the election results.
