At the 10th Powering Africa Summit in Washington, D.C., Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, Sierra Leone’s Energy Sector Lead, highlighted the country’s energy growth potential and called for international partnerships to support this vision.
During the summit, Dr. Yumkella, along with Minister Julius D. Mattai, met with Sun Africa, a leading company in solar energy. Sun Africa expressed interest in expanding its operations in Sierra Leone and plans to visit soon to continue discussions with government officials.
Dr. Yumkella also connected with SCATEC, a Norwegian energy firm, about their planned renewable energy project in Kamakwei Town, Karene District. The project will provide 40 megawatts of power to the area, addressing the growing energy needs in the region.
Minister Mattai took the opportunity to emphasize the need for more energy investments to support Sierra Leone’s mining sector, which is essential to the country’s development.
Through these discussions, Dr. Yumkella made it clear that Sierra Leone is prepared to collaborate with international investors, looking for partnerships that can help meet the country’s rising energy demands.
