It is Good News from Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA) as seen in accompanying document detailing a World Bank backed recalibration of pricing of fuel products in Sierra Leone.

The recalibration is especially good as it has now produced an instant reduction in petrol & other fuels costs.

However, there is a downside to the recalibration. I must say the decision to change the uniformity of prices by the PRA may prove to be counterproductive for vehicle engines of those of us who stay in or regularly visit remote areas.

Byscrapping uniformity, unscrupulous people will resort again to buying cheaper Kerosine and Fuel Oil and mixing them with the more expensive Petrol and Diesel – so as to make more money when selling them to us in remote areas of the provinces which lack fuel stations.

In remote areas without fuel stations, our folks Lare forced to buy fuel from retailers selling fuel in containers like gallons and pints. Those fuel like diesel & petrol, if mixed with cheaper ones and sold, provides heavier profits for retailers but spoil the engines of bikes & cars.

This is the sad aspect of the press release. All other aspects are great news. Thank you to PRA for the recalibration and the reduction in prices of all petroleum products including Kerosene, Diese Fuel Oil, Diesel and Petrol.
