The National Public Health Agency (NPHA), with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and funding from the Pandemic Fund, has officially handed over 16 Honda motorbikes to District Medical Officers (DMOs) across Sierra Leone.

The handover ceremony took place at the NPHA Headquarters in Wilberforce and was led by the agency’s Director of Finance and Logistics, Mrs. Mariama G. Bunduka Heimoh. She reaffirmed NPHA’s commitment to strengthening health security and building resilient public health systems nationwide.

The motorbikes are expected to enhance rapid response at the district level by enabling swift deployment of health teams, improving the transportation of laboratory samples, and increasing access to hard-to-reach communities during public health emergencies.

The initiative is also aimed at strengthening Sierra Leone’s capacity to detect, investigate, and respond to disease outbreaks in a timely and coordinated manner.

Receiving the motorbikes on behalf of their respective districts, the District Medical Officers expressed appreciation for the support and pledged to ensure effective use of the resources to improve disease surveillance, emergency response, and community health service delivery.
