Isata Felicia Wieh-Philips, a parliamentary nominee of Koidu city in the Kono District, has withdrawn her candidacy to contest for Parliament under the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party.

In a letter addressed to the District Returning Officer of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Isata cited section 62 (1A) of the Public Election Act 2022, which allows a candidate to withdraw their nomination by delivering a written notice to the Returning Officer before the close of nomination.

Isata explained that she had already submitted a resignation letter to the APC party on May 5, 2023, which was acknowledged by the deputy regional chairperson, Madam Magrette Suluku. However, the APC party nominated her as a parliamentary candidate without her consent.

Isata attached a copy of her resignation letter and a WhatsApp message of acknowledgement of receipt to the letter.

She expressed confidence that the ECSL would withdraw her candidature immediately as the body responsible for conducting free, fair, and credible elections by law.
