The All People’s Congress (APC) has announced a further postponement of its nationwide Constituency Elections, citing security and logistical concerns raised ahead of the forthcoming ECOWAS Summit to be hosted by Sierra Leone.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the party’s National Secretariat said the decision followed a meeting held on July 13 involving the Office of National Security (ONS), the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), and APC representatives.
According to the party, the ONS advised that conducting the Constituency Elections on Saturday, July 18, would not be appropriate because of security and logistical demands associated with preparations for the regional summit. The security agency subsequently requested that the elections be deferred until after the conclusion of the ECOWAS meeting.
The APC said it had accepted the request in the interest of national security, public order, and responsible democratic participation. As a result, the elections, originally scheduled for July 18, have been rescheduled to Saturday, July 25, 2026, and will be conducted across the country.
The party emphasised that the postponement was prompted by the ONS and was not initiated by the APC itself.
While acknowledging the inconvenience the change may cause to party members, delegates, aspirants, and officials who had already completed preparations, the National Secretariat appealed for patience, understanding, and continued cooperation.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, transparent, and credible Constituency Elections and assured members that they would be kept informed of any further developments.
The notice, signed by National Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya Esq., also urged party members to remain calm, united, disciplined, and committed to preserving peace and the democratic values of the APC as preparations continue for the rescheduled elections.
