The All People’s Congress (APC) has responded to allegations of betrayal made by its former presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara, who recently announced that he would not contest the 2028 elections and accused the party’s executive of abandoning him in the pursuit of electoral justice.

Speaking during a media engagement, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sidi Yahya Tunis, dismissed the claims, insisting that the party remains fully committed to the electoral justice process. He said the APC’s participation in the Tripartite Committee recommendations, as well as its advocacy for the implementation of the African Union–mediated agreement on national unity, demonstrates its commitment.

According to Tunis, the party views electoral justice not as a continued contest over the 2023 elections, but as a broader process that includes institutional reforms and preparation for future elections. He stressed that it would be a “grave betrayal” to mislead supporters into believing that the 2023 election outcome could still be overturned.

“The greatest betrayal would be failing to prepare for the 2028 elections and continuing to mislead our supporters that the 2023 election is not concluded and that President Bio will be removed,” Tunis said. “Our responsibility is to prepare our membership and the people of this country for what lies ahead.”

He further expressed concern over the current national situation, citing rising commodity prices, worsening electricity shortages, and recent international reports involving a major drug trafficking case, which he said have negatively affected Sierra Leone’s image.

“These are the issues the people are grappling with,” he noted. “As a political party, if we fail to position ourselves to deliver the change the people desire, they will not forgive us.”

Tunis also highlighted the APC’s internal unity efforts, noting that the party had twice entrusted Dr. Samura Kamara with its presidential flagbearer ticket, which he said contributed significantly to his political prominence.

“It is the APC that made Dr. Samura Kamara politically prominent,” he stated. “However, as a party, we must move forward, bring everyone on board, and focus on our responsibility to both the party and the nation.”

He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to strengthening its base and preparing for the 2028 general elections.
