President Julius Maada Bio has revealed to his supporters in Kangama Town, Gorama Chiefdom in Kono District the main reason for his many overseas trips.

The President said he has been traveling overseas frequently in a bid to clean up the messes created by the Ernest Bai Koroma’s administration in ten years.

He re-echoed an incident in Japan in which he and the Sierra Leone delegation were refused lodging in a hotel. The President claimed that the reason for that was because the then All People’s Congress (APC) occupied the hotel when in governance and refused to pay.

President Bio said they had to pay the arrears incurred by the APC government before they were allowed lodging in the said hotel.

It was so embarrassing that a whole presidential delegation was stopped from occupying the hotel,” President Bio said.

He added that the world viewed Sierra Leone with negativities like war, disease, corruption and injustice.

The President reminisced on his successes so far including an award he and one his education ministers received earlier this year, co-chairing the UN Global Education Summit in New York and Time Magazine’s selection of the Freetown Peninsula as a tourist hub.

President Bio told his supporters in Kangama Town that the nation is now known for women’s right, free quality education and removal of the death penalty among other things.

He affirmed that since he took power in 2018, Sierra Leone has become a respected member of the international community because of their relentless effort for positive transformation.

Many critics of the Bio presidency have called out his many overseas trips as a means of amassing per diem in a nation with a struggling economy. They said the President should have been making using of country’s foreign missions which they believe could reduce much needed expenses.
