C4C Interim Chairman Talks Tough as They Gear up For Delegates Conference

The Interim Chairman of the Coalition for Change (C4C) party, Dr. Alieu Mohamed Iscandar has said the party is taking steps and putting structures together to bring C4C as a national party than a localized district-level political party as they gear up for their delegates conference.

In an interview with concord Times, Dr. Iscandar disclosed that the C4C party is currently faced with some challenges with court action against the former national executive of the party but they are currently in preparation for their upcoming delegates’ conference.

He affirmed that they would contest the 2023 general elections, but they are still looking for a leader that will lead the party to the upcoming elections.

He said they have requested an order from the court to conduct the elections, and that as soon as it is granted they will commence their lower-level level elections.

He said even though some people tried to highjack the party by claiming it is a Kono party, they now need to speak to the people of Sierra Leone to understand their vision.

Dr. Iscandar boasted that despite their challenges, they are the third largest political party in Sierra Leone with eight members of parliament.

“The C4C gained (3.5%) of the total votes cast, thereby winning a total of eight (8) parliamentary seats in th 2018 general elections,” he said.

He added that this was achieved within three months of the 2018 elections, and as they now have six months to the 2023 elections, they are optimistic about having more seats and a better percentage.

He said that being the third largest political party in the country by parliamentary representation is a significant achievement that denies the ruling SLPP and main opposition APC from gaining a solid majority in the well of parliament.

He further disclosed that the C4C was not formed to limit its membership to just one area but to make the party known in every part of sierra leone, adding that the founding members of the party have come together again to put in structures for the upcoming 2023 general elections.

Dr. Iscandar noted that as of now he doesn’t know who their leader would be, but assured that they will fully participate in the June 2023 elections.

He added that the erstwhile leader of the C4C, Alhaji Chief Sam Sumana, was chosen out of sympathy after he was embarrassed by former President Koroma.

He disclosed that Sam Sumana had communicated with the general membership in 2019 about his resignation from the C4C.

He noted that Sam Sumana on his way out of the C4C party, deceived the APC into believing that the party is a Kono party, and that when he moved out he was going to come along with every member of the C4C party back to APC.

“Sam Sumana fails to realize that the brains behind the C4C party are much bigger and smarter than him,” he said.
