The National Coordinator of the Ebema Gbi Movement, an affiliate body of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, Honourable Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, has explained the meaning and political significance of the Mende phrase “Ebema Gbi,” stating that it conveys a strong message of finality and determination.
Speaking on the concept, Conteh clarified that the phrase “Ebema Gbi” in Mende language translates to “it will not happen again” or “impossible,” adding that it reflects a firm stance against any recurrence of past political or national setbacks.
He emphasized that the SLPP, through the Ebema Gbi Movement, intends to communicate its message directly to citizens without reliance on intermediaries, stressing that the party will “be its own messenger” in engaging the public.
According to him, the slogan first gained public attention during the party’s National Delegate Conference held in 2025, where it was introduced as part of a broader political messaging strategy within the ruling party’s grassroots structures.
Conteh noted that the phrase has since evolved into a rallying call within the movement, symbolizing resilience, commitment, and a forward-looking political posture aimed at reinforcing the party’s engagement with supporters across the country.
