In an unexpected turn of events, several aspiring flag bearers (names withheld) for now within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have openly disregarded President Julius Maada Bio’s directive against early campaigning.
President Bio, who also serves as the National Leader of the ruling party, recently cautioned party members in National Executive Council Meeting against engaging in premature flag bearer campaigns to maintain party unity and focus on governance.
The warming came amdist growing speculation over succession as President Bio emphasized that the party’s internal processes must be respected and free from undue influence.
“The SLPP is bigger than any individual ambition.”
However reports from various districts indicate that some aspiring candidates have ignored the presidents appeal Campaign banners, rallies and unofficial endorsements have surfaced in key regions, signaling an active race for the party’s top ticket.
One such instance occurred in Bo where a group of supporters organized a public event to endorse a prominent party member as a potential flag bearer Similar activities were reported in other districts and regions with grassroots mobilizations gaining momentum Critics argue that these actions undermine the party’s cohesion and risk creating internal divisions.
A senior SLPP official speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed frustration, stating, “This lack of discipline is troubling. It sends the wrong message to the electorate about our ability to govern ourselves”
Supporters of the aspiring flag bearers, however, contend that early preparations are necessary to build momentum and secure widespread support, especially given the competitive political landscape.
You mean there is no discipline amongst some SLPP party members? You mean they saw how Bio became flagbearer rahray boy style and now they are supposed to listen to him when he says internal rules should be followed, which simply means wait until I announce who I want to succeed me, not whom the party members want to be the flag bearer? You mean they have decided paopa worked for Bio, so it will work for them?
The person whom they saw basically criminally force his way into party leadership, who just stole the last election that he did not win, is now telling them how to behave. They are not stupid. They know Fatima Bio, or maybe Sengeh will be announced as the new flagbearer or maybe Bio will force a new constitution that lets him run again, so they are not interested in sitting around following rules, while the person at the top who will take over the rule making process, is himself not following party rules.
They have watched Bio and his wife steal millions, fly around the world in private jets while the rest of the country suffers, his belle just getting bigger and bigger from eating very well while the people struggle, and they too want that for themselves. Bio is not the only one that can rape his country.
The party leader said no one should campaign early, some choose not to listen and are campaigning three years before election. Whether or not it was right for him to do that is questionable, but that some are defying the order shows the mindset of those who want to lead us, although I understand their mindset. Bio is only looking out for his interest, not the party’s

Who told you people that Bio was forcefully elected as flagbearer ? We know the angles u people ar coming from…we don’t need ” No Anti -apc frustrated comments here …looking for loose holes to create divisions in our party to Snish in state house !!! That menthod won’t work here…SLPP is more stronger than ever
