Popular whistleblower, Dr. John Idris Lahai has strongly criticized President Julius Maada Bio and opposition leader Samura Kamara for labeling themselves as “fathers of democracy”.

The controversy arose after flyers bearing the title “Father of Democracy” emerged for both political figures. Dr. Lahai, an outspoken advocate for transparency and accountability, expressed his disapproval on his Facebook page, saying, “These men, Julius Maada Bio and Samurakamara2023 are insulting us; it can’t get worse than this.”

Dr. Lahai’s remarks reflect a broader sentiment within the public. He pointed out that these leaders, representing the two major political parties in Sierra Leone, had historically been at odds and, in some instances, accused of conspiring against the interests of the people and undermining democratic principles. To him, it is an affront to the nation and its citizens that both politicians would claim to be champions of democracy, given this contentious history.

These men — Julius Maada Bio and Samurakamara2023 — are insulting us; it can’t get worse than this: for the leaders of the two main political parties who conspired against our people and destroyed (literally) democracy calling themselves “fathers of democracy” is an insult to our people and our country”.

“Ar nor blame dem. Na de youth man en woman dem wae go dance been dem ar blame”.

His comments stem from the appearance of flyers featuring President Bio and Samura Kamara, both claiming the title “father of Democracy.” This assertion by Samura Kamara follows the recently concluded peace dialogue between the government and the main opposition APC.
