Prominent legal practitioner Martina Baindu Egbenda has officially declared her candidacy for the presidency of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, promising to restore unity, strengthen professionalism and reposition the Association as a credible voice for the legal profession.
Speaking ahead of the Association’s forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM), Egbenda said her decision to contest for the presidency was motivated by the need to rebuild and unify the Bar Association at a critical time for the legal fraternity.
According to her, the Association must regain its strength and speak with one voice in promoting the rule of law and protecting the integrity of the profession.
“My message is simple: we need a United Bar. An association that speaks with one voice, makes the rule of law a priority, ensures professionalism and growth, and makes us a serious and united association again,” Egbenda stated.
She emphasized that her leadership vision is based on servant leadership and collective progress, noting that meaningful transformation within the Association would require the support and cooperation of members of the legal profession.
“I cannot do this alone. I seek to be your servant leader. Together, we are better and stronger. Let us do this together,” she said.
Egbenda’s campaign is centered on the themes of unity, professionalism and institutional growth, with a commitment to strengthening the image and effectiveness of the Sierra Leone Bar Association.
Her declaration comes as preparations continue for the SLBA elections, which are expected to attract significant attention within the country’s legal community as candidates present competing visions for the future direction of the Association.
Observers within the legal fraternity say the upcoming elections will be important in shaping the role of the Bar Association in advancing professional standards, defending the rule of law and promoting cohesion among lawyers in Sierra Leone.
Egbenda’s entry into the race adds to growing anticipation ahead of the elections, as members of the Association prepare to choose new leadership during the Annual General Meeting.
