The Political Parties Regulation Commission has placed a temporary hold on lower-level elections for the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in several constituencies across the country, pending the resolution of petitions submitted to the Commission.
In a press release issued on February 20, 2025, the PPRC announced that all constituencies in Port Loko District (North West Region) and several others in the Northern, Eastern, and Western regions are affected by the suspension.
Specifically, elections have been halted in Bombali District’s Constituency 038, as well as multiple constituencies across Kono, Kailahun, Kenema, Bo, and Moyamba Districts. In the Western Area, elections have been suspended in constituencies spanning both urban and rural districts.
The Commission emphasized that this decision aligns with its constitutional and statutory mandate to ensure compliance with the SLPP Constitution of August 11, 2020, and the party’s February 5, 2021, Rules and Regulations for Executive Elections.
It also cited adherence to national legal frameworks, including the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, the Political Parties Act of 2022, and the Public Order Act of 1965.
