The Sierra Leon People’s Party (SLPP) National Executive Council (NEC) has slated timetable for v lower-level elections this 2025.
The timetable was developed in an NEC meeting held on January 18 this year widely attended by some senior members of the party including the National Secretary General, Umaru Napoleon Koroma.
During the meeting the NEC announced various dates for the conduct of conferences, sectional and zonal elections, chiefdom elections, constituency executive elections, District executive elections, National Young Generation Conference and elections, National Women’s Council elections, NEC meeting to validate elected delegates and publication of delegate list and the National Delegates Conference.
Also in attendance was the Vice President, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh who expressed optimism about the future of the party. He emphasized unity and adherence to the new timetable. The Vice President added that the party’s future is reliant on free and fair elections.
The SLPP will hold their first election on February 8 when members will vote for their sectional and zonal chairpersons and representatives. This will be followed by nationwide chiefdom elections on February 15 constituency executive elections and all student chapters elections on February 22.
The most anticipated elections like the Women’s Council elections and the National Young Generation elections will be conducted on April 19 and March 15 respectively.
This is the first major announcement from the SLPP NEC after they extended their mandate until June this year.
Several members of the party have conveyed their optimism regarding ongoing unity as they strategize for the upcoming 2028 national elections.
However, experts warn that they could face a strong battle with the main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC).
