The Alliance between the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the National Grand Coalition (NGC) is poised to sign “ideals of the Alliance” on the 23rd April this year.

While a statement from the Alliance reads that the event will be specially organised next week, it did not reveal the said location but affirmed that it will be “a special ceremony”.

Earlier this week, the two political parties in the West African nation entered into an alliance as both the President and his vice met with the leader and supposed presidential candidate of the NGC at State House.

President Julius Maada Bio together with his Vice, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh expressed their support for the alliance to Dr. Kandeh Yumkella of the NGC.

The alliance, according an official statement is part of the vision of President Bio to promote inclusive governance and national cohesion.

It reads that before the three-man meeting this week, the parties have held several consultations and the formation of the Alliance received blessings from both parties Executive Councils.

Earlier in February this year, a viral audio on social media revealed that factions of the NGC did not agree with the party to form an alliance with the incumbent with months to elections.

The disagreement saw the resignation of several top party officials including the Chairman Dr. Dennis Bright, Diaspora Coordinator, Alan Luke and senior female member, Nyamacoro Sarata Silla among others.

They cited that some party members were seeking their personal interests above the party’s and country’s.

Sierra Leone will hold its multi-tier election in June and locals have witnessed several politicians cross-carpeting to both the incumbent and main opposition APC.

Political analysts have predicted that the incumbent will face stiff competition from the main opposition party.
