The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has issued a comprehensive memorandum to all party executives, Members of Parliament, and party members, outlining strict guidelines to ensure the integrity, transparency, and fairness of the upcoming executive elections.

The directive, signed by National Secretary Umaru Napoleon Koroma, emphasizes adherence to the party’s established rules and regulations, as well as the promotion of ethical campaign practices and a transparent voting process.

The memorandum, dated February 6, 2025, reminds all party members of the Rules and Regulations for the Conduct of all Executive Elections for the Sierra Leone People’s Party, published on February 5, 2021 (Government Notice No. 22). It warns that any deviation from these guidelines will result in disciplinary action.

Key Directives for the Election Process

Adherence to Rules and Regulations
All executives are required to strictly follow the party’s election guidelines as outlined in the party constitution and the 2021 rules. Violations will not be tolerated, and offenders will face suspension and investigation by the party’s disciplinary committee.

Fair Campaign Practices
Candidates vying for executive positions are urged to conduct their campaigns ethically, avoiding manipulation, intimidation, or coercion. The party emphasizes the importance of promoting platforms positively and respectfully.

Transparent Voting Process
The voting process must be transparent and accessible to all eligible members. Proper documentation and record-keeping are mandatory to maintain credibility. Voters are required to present valid identification, such as a voter ID card, national ID card, or driver’s license, to participate in the elections.

District, constituency, and chiefdom chairmen have been instructed to distribute party cards in line with the National Executive Council (NEC) resolution of January 18, 2025. Any deviation from this directive will be deemed unacceptable.

Non-Interference by MPs
SLPP Members of Parliament have been strictly advised not to interfere with the election process. The party insists that the rules and regulations for executive elections must be fully implemented without external influence.

Conflict Resolution
Any disputes or grievances arising from the electoral process must be reported immediately to the designated election committee. The party has established procedures to ensure timely and impartial resolution of conflicts.

Upholding Party Values
All actions during the election period must reflect the SLPP’s core values of unity, respect, and integrity. The party calls on members to prioritize these principles to maintain harmony and credibility.

Consequences for Non-Compliance
The memorandum warns that any election conducted in violation of these instructions will be deemed invalid. In such cases, the party’s secretariat will dispatch an independent body to oversee a rerun of the election in the affected area. Additionally, members found guilty of violating the guidelines will face suspension and referral to the disciplinary committee.

Submission of Election Results
All election results must be submitted on the same day, in accordance with the 2021 rules. While electronic submissions are permitted, hard copies must be delivered to the secretariat by the following day.

In his closing remarks, National Secretary Umaru Napoleon Koroma urged all party members to cooperate and commit to the outlined principles. “Your dedication to these standards is essential for a successful and harmonious election process,” he stated. “Let us work together to uphold the values that our party stands for.”
