Observers from the United States Embassy in Freetown have departed Freetown for their various duty posts ahead of the Saturday polls.

Our election observation teams are departing this morning.

“Please vote!” the Embassy said on their official Twitter page.

The observers will join other foreign observers from the European Union, ECOWAS and Commonwealth.

According to the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), there are over 11,800 polling stations in all 16 districts of the country.

The West African nation will hold its multitier election tomorrow with tension already high between the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) and the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

On Wednesday, there was a brief standoff between local police and supporters of APC who were staging protest against the ECSL front of their headquarters in Brookfields.

According reports, there was one casualty but police have denied any fatalities.
