Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, the former parliamentary leader and founder of Sierra Leone’s National Grand Coalition (NGC) party, expressed his disappointment with the outcome of the June 24 presidential and general election in a recent statement on his Twitter feed.

He raised concerns about the political opportunities available to smaller parties due to the proportional representation (PR) threshold imposed by the Electoral Commission.

In his tweet, Dr. Yumkella acknowledged the multitude of challenges and constraints faced by the NGC Salone during the election but emphasized that the party had given its best effort.

“The final results released by the EC Salone show that the PR threshold posed significant limitations on the political opportunities available to smaller parties. Despite the multitude of challenges and constraints we encountered, the NGC Salone gave its best effort,” he stated.

He gracefully accepted the people’s verdict and extended heartfelt congratulations to President Bio and the Progressive Alliance on their resounding victory.

Dr. Yumkella expressed his hope that President Bio would govern with inclusivity for all Sierra Leoneans, and he reaffirmed the Progressive Alliance’s unwavering commitment to advancing the vision of Compassionate Inclusive Governance.

In a show of gratitude, Dr. Yumkella thanked all the dedicated members of the NGC Salone who tirelessly contributed to the party’s campaign.

“Immense gratitude to all the devoted members of the NGC Salone who tirelessly contributed to our campaign. Your unwavering dedication is deeply appreciated. Let us unite now in our collective endeavours to forge a brighter future for Sierra Leone,” he concluded.
