Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) Chairman Francis Trevor Samura has received the ICC Long Service Award during the ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh, recognizing his two decades of contribution to the growth and development of cricket in Sierra Leone.

Samura began his involvement with CSL in 2006 and served as Assistant Secretary from 2007 to 2012 before becoming Chief Executive Officer from 2012 to 2021. He was elected Chairman in 2021, continuing efforts to strengthen the federation and expand cricket nationwide.

Among his major achievements is the acquisition of an 18-acre site at Fourah Bay College, valued at approximately US$5 million, to support cricket facilities, training, and community programmes. He also contributed to securing additional grounds through the Sussex land donation initiative.

Samura founded Mid West Cricket Club in 2008 to promote youth participation through coaching and competitions. Under his leadership, the club won the Senior Men’s T20 Cricket Premier League six times and the T20 Super League once.

He also prioritized capacity building by supporting training programmes for umpires, coaches, scorers, and curators, while expanding school cricket, especially for girls, through the training of over 400 PHE teachers to deliver basic cricket instruction.

The ICC award recognizes Samura’s contribution to cricket administration, infrastructure development, grassroots expansion, and building a stronger cricket system in Sierra Leone. He becomes the third Sierra Leonean to receive this level of ICC recognition.
