Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) is intensifying preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, scheduled to begin on August 28, 2025, in Namibia.

CSL Chairman Francis Trevor Samuara said the national women’s team is entering the final phase of its training programme with the aim of being fully prepared for the regional competition. Describing previous matches as preparatory, Samuara emphasized the need for the team to be ready for tougher opposition at the qualifiers.

The Namibia-hosted tournament serves as a gateway to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in the United Kingdom, with only the top two teams earning qualification.

Support for the national side has been reinforced by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sierra Leone. NOC President Prince Sualley and Secretary-General Joseph Nyande assured CSL officials and players that efforts are underway to mobilize financial and logistical backing, including potential assistance from the Olympic Solidarity Fund.

Sualley acknowledged the dedication shown by the cricketers in training and encouraged them to continue working hard ahead of the qualifiers. He pledged that the NOC would explore various channels of support to ensure the team is adequately prepared to represent Sierra Leone at the international level.

Sierra Leone’s women’s team is expected to continue training intensively in the coming weeks before traveling to Namibia for the continental qualifying tournament.
