Leone Stars coach Didier Gomez Da Rosa has started a home-based training camp as Sierra Leone begins preparations for its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The French coach opened the camp Monday at the Sierra Leone Football Association Academy, working with a group of locally based players selected for assessment ahead of the September qualifiers.

According to the Sierra Leone Football Association, the exercise is designed to give Gomez Da Rosa an opportunity to evaluate domestic talent before settling on the squad that will represent the country in the qualifiers.

Sierra Leone is scheduled to face Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea in September as the team begins its campaign to secure a place at the 2027 continental tournament.

The opening session was attended by SLFA Vice President 1 and Technical Committee Chairman Alie Badara Tarawallie, who urged the invited players to approach the camp with discipline and determination.

Tarawallie told the players that qualifying for the 2027 AFCON should remain the team’s central objective. He also emphasized that places in the final squad would be determined by competence and performance.

Gomez Da Rosa, speaking to the SLFA Media Team, said he was encouraged by the quality and potential he had seen among the players during the early stages of the camp.

The coach also called on the players to maintain their commitment and work ethic as the assessment process continues.

The home-based training is expected to form part of Sierra Leone’s broader preparations for the September fixtures, with Gomez Da Rosa continuing to assess his options as he builds the squad for the qualifying campaign.

CAF’s 2026 competition calendar confirms that the AFCON 2027 qualifying cycle is scheduled within the 2026 international football calendar.
