Former Leone Stars forward, Kei Kamara scored twice over the weekend and moving three goals away from equalling US soccer legend, Landon Donovan’s goal tally in the MLS All-Time goal scorer chart.
The two goals from the 38-year-old striker helped Chicago Fire secure a 2-1 win over visiting Minnesota United FC and also earned their first home win of the season.
Kamara gave The Fire a 1-0 lead when his low shot deflected off the leg of Minnesota defender Miguel Tapias and past the outstretched arms of diving goalie Dayne St. Clair in the 24th minute.
The host doubled their advantage 12 minutes later. After taking a pass from Carlos Teran, Arnaud Souquet sent the ball into the penalty box, where Kamara’s diving header found the back of the net.
Kamara has scored the Fire’s past three goals. His goal in the 92nd minute lifted Chicago to a 3-2 win over host Inter Miami CF on March 25.
Kei Kamara’s brace against Minnesota United FC has earned him the possibility of overtaking Landon Donovan in the Major League Soccer All Time top goal scorer chart. He now has 142 goals, while Donovan has 145 goals. Kamara will also have to score another 32 goals to overtake C. Wondolowski, who has 171 goals, and become the leading scorer in the MLS All-Time goal scorer chart.
