Sierra Leonean striker Kumba Zainab Brima has set a new record, netting a sensational first half hat-trick in her UEFA Women’s Champions League debut for FC Riga Women club.

Kumba’s performance has given the Latvian side a commanding 3-1 lead against Estonian club Flora in the first leg of their qualifying round match, with 45 minutes still to play.

Brima’s appearance in the tournament marks an important milestone, as she becomes the first Sierra Leonean player to ever compete in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

In June 2025, Brima signed her first professional contract with Fc Riga Football Club Women, a move that paved her way to European club football’s elite competition.

The young forward arrived in Latvia with a formidable reputation, having dominated the Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League. She was the top goal scorer in the 2023/24 season, clinching the Golden Boot with an astounding 39 goals.

This followed an impressive 26-goal tally in the 2022/23 season, cementing her status as a prolific goal-scorer. Kumba Brima has a golden opportunity to further extend her goal tally and solidify her place in the history books.
