On Tuesday, the Ministry of Sports was honored with a trophy and certificate during a formal presentation led by Director of Sports, Haroun Mustapha Korgi, and Senior Development Sports Officer, Momodu Alpha. The awards were in recognition of the government’s financial backing, which played a crucial role in the success of the 2023/2024 Leone Rock Premier League season.
The accolades were handed over to the Minister of Sports, who expressed gratitude on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio. She extended special thanks to the Leone Rock Premier League Awards team for acknowledging the government’s contributions, which have been instrumental in supporting football—a sport beloved by the nation’s youth.
The Premier League season not only showcased sporting talent but also created significant job opportunities for young people, with over 500 players benefiting from the league. The Ministry of Sports (MOS), National Sports Authority (NSA), and Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) have pledged to continue their collaborative efforts to further enhance job creation through sports, aligning with President Bio’s vision.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to providing ongoing financial support for football through the NSA, recognizing the sport’s immense popularity and potential for youth engagement in Sierra Leone.
