Mohamed Turay first came into sport governance as a schoolboy in 1986, when he became an official of the Old Edwardians Football Club under the management and tutelage of Mr. Nahim Khadi.
He worked with the Club to achieve the only Championship title in the Sierra Leone Elite League at the time in 1987. In 1999, he was appointed to represent the Old Edwardians Association for both the Old Edwardians Football and Cricket teams.
He became Welfare Officer, Assistant Secretary General, and Acting Secretary General (in a period of eight years) under the management of Dr. Foday John Bangura, aka Bangsu, winning an FA CUP SILVER MEDAL for Old Edwardians FC in 2005.
BROOKFIELDS UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB
Mohamed Turay became the Deputy Chairman of Brookfields United Football Club then in the 2nd Division in 1990. Two years after that, Brookfields United Football Club won the 2 Division League in 1992 and was promoted to the 1st Division League.

He formed the Brookfields Veterans Football Club to keep former footballers in the community fit and available, playing football every Sunday.

Mohamed Turay led the Brookfields Community to win the maiden edition of WAFA SL Brewery Inter Community Football League in 2002 and repeated the feat in 2003, losing in 2004 to Lumley Community in the finals.

2013 – 2021 Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Association.
