Leone Stars Right Back Osman Kakay has described his participation with the Leone Stars National team in AFCON 2021 as an amazing experience.
The Right back was tested positive for Covid-19 and was in Isolation in Cameroon after Leone Stars encountered with Algeria. Kakay recovered quickly as he tested negative ahead of Ivory Coast encounter. He was featured in all Leone Stars three matches in the group stage phase of the tournament.
Kakay posted on his Social Media Handle ”An amazing experience in Cameroon! Proud of my team for our efforts. Thank you to all the Sierra Leoneans worldwide for the support, this is just the beginning.”
Having been on the books at QPR since the age of eight, the young defender has worked his way up through the Rangers youth ranks and has now got his part to play in Mark Warburton’s side.
The Sierra Leone international made his Hoops debut against Sunderland in the EFL Cup back in September 2016, before enjoying a series of loan spells away.
Kakay then returned and made his full QPR league debut in a 3-1 defeat to Brentford in April 2018, before playing in a string of matches for the R’s towards the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
He then spent a brief spell in the SPL with Partick Thistle, before returning in May 2020.
The extension of the 2019/20 campaign owing to Covid saw Rangers playing Championship games into late July, something which benefited the full-back.
Having made seven appearances throughout this period, Kakay had quickly established himself in the R’s squad and as the 2020/21 season approached, he became a regular starter in the blue and white hoops.
An impressive 29 appearances in all competitions and his first two goals for QPR, including a memorable strike against Stoke City on their final away trip of the campaign, capped off a fine season for Kakay.
