One of the leading banks in Sierra Leone, Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank) on Saturday 18 March 2023 organized a marathon race for 60 participants in the country.
The marathon with the theme, “Race for Digitization” commenced at the bank’s SLRA Outltet, PWD, Kissy East End of Freetown, and ended at Kallon Park, Lumley-Aberdeen Beach Road, West End of Freetown.
Ann-Marie Gebai-Jalloh, member of the RCBank’s Public Relations Unit, shed light on the theme of the marathon, (Race for Digitization) which she said is the bank’s effort to catch up with the ongoing digital trends.
She said they organized the race to promote the different products and services that the bank is offering.
Noel Williams, Manager RCBank Wilkinson Road Branch and Chairman of the Marathon Committee rendered thanks and appreciation to the athletes and all those that took part in the marathon.
He disclosed that this is the first of many marathons the bank will be organizing, as they plan to organize it every year with bigger and higher expectations, better results, and more participants.
Denrick Moore, Marketing Officer Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA) thanked RCBank for the opportunity given to the athletes to showcase their talents and for supporting them over the years.
He disclosed that RCBank is one of the corporate entities in the country that has always been there for them whenever they are in need and facing constraints with support.
Moore then used the opportunity to give a Certificate of Appreciation to the Bank for constantly supporting them over the years, and for the good work they are doing in the country.
He also used the opportunity to share a partnership proposal between the Sierra Leone Athletics Association and Rokel Commercial Bank. The proposal is for the RCBank logo, product or service to be inscribed on the front of the jersey Sierra Leonean Athletes will be wearing for international competitions.
The Certificate was received by RCBank Business Center Manager, Umaru Syllon on behalf of the Managing Director, Dr. Ekundayo Walton Gilpin.
He thanked the SLAA for recognizing them with such a certificate, and on behalf of the MD, reiterated the Banks’ commitment to continue supporting them. “This is the beginning. Others are on the way. The next one will be bigger and better attended and organized,” he said.
Adekalie Kamara, Operations Head of RcBank also expressed thanks and appreciation to the athletes and all those who made the marathon a successful story.
He said the marathon is one of several channels the bank is using to reach out to customers and for them to understand their products and services. He referred to RCBank as the “People’s bank” because it is owned by Sierra Leoneans.
Kamara said they have got the Athletics Association message and their proposal, and advised them to formally present it to the MD. He said the MD will support the project because, in the process of supporting them, the bank will also get an opportunity to showcase its products and services to the public.
He then spoke on several products and services the bank has recently launched and their significance to customers.
The event climaxed with the distribution of certificates to all 60 participants. A special segment was organized for the top three male and female runners.
