The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has concluded its CAF C Diploma Coaching Course in Freetown, marking a significant step in strengthening grassroots football development and improving coaching standards across the country.

The training, organized by the SLFA’s Technical Department, was held at the Association’s Secretariat and brought together aspiring coaches from different parts of Sierra Leone.

Designed specifically for coaches working with players aged 12 to 16, the programme focused on key areas such as modern training methodology, tactical analysis, and player development, in line with Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards.

The closing ceremony was attended by senior SLFA officials, including Deputy General Secretary Ishmail Saidu Kanu, Technical Director John Keister, Head of Competitions Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, and Female Football Manager Elizabeth Kailey. Their presence underscored the Association’s emphasis on building technical capacity within its structures.

Speaking at the event, Kanu commended the participants and acknowledged the contribution of Liberian CAF Instructor Keatu John Smith for delivering the course.

He conveyed congratulations on behalf of SLFA President Babadi Kamara and the Executive Committee, highlighting the importance of continuous training for coaches at all levels of the game.

The course also saw participation from female coaches, including national team captain Sarah Bangura and former captain Hannah Conteh. Their involvement reflects ongoing efforts to promote gender inclusion in football coaching.

Former Leone Stars forward Mustapha Bangura, also known as “Haji,” expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that such programmes provide valuable pathways for retired players seeking to transition into coaching roles.

Elizabeth Kailey, in her remarks, highlighted the provision of full scholarships for all female participants, describing it as a key intervention to encourage more women to take up coaching. Instructor Keatu John Smith also praised the commitment of the trainees, noting their ability to grasp both theoretical and practical aspects of the course.

The CAF C Diploma Coaching Course forms part of the SLFA’s broader strategy to develop a pool of qualified coaches capable of nurturing young talent and advancing football development nationwide.
