The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has completed the second segment of the Confederation of African Football’s C Diploma coaching program, a key initiative designed to improve the quality of football coaching in the country.

The training, which forms part of the coaching education framework established by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), brought together a group of local coaches seeking to enhance their technical knowledge and professional competence in the game.

During this phase of the course, participants were taken through several core aspects of modern football coaching. The sessions explored areas such as developing players’ abilities, building tactical awareness, structuring effective training sessions, and preparing teams for competitive matches.

The module combined academic-style instruction with practical demonstrations on the pitch. Coaches actively participated in guided discussions, collaborative learning exercises, and field drills intended to strengthen their understanding of contemporary coaching approaches.

The training was facilitated by CAF instructor Keatu John Smith, who monitored the progress of the participants throughout the module. He acknowledged the level of dedication shown by the coaches and encouraged them to continue applying the knowledge gained to improve football development in their respective communities.

Following the completion of this stage, participants have been granted a brief recess before returning to continue the program. The final phase of the course is scheduled to take place in April and will include further technical instruction as well as assessments required for the award of the CAF C Diploma license.

The initiative represents an important step in expanding the pool of trained coaches in Sierra Leone and supports ongoing efforts to raise the overall standard of football development in the country.
