Reports reaching us on Saturday evening claimed that the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) were asked out of Catco Hall midway through the Ordinary Congress for a wedding reception.
Journalist, Hawa Dauda reported that the SLFA were asked to eject the hall during committee voting process on Saturday evening.
“It is very shameful that members of the SLFA were asked to leave the Catco Hall where the Ordinary Congress was being held,” Dauda reported on social media platform Facebook.
Sources confirmed that as the voting process was underway, the SLFA committee members had to vacate the hall, with the wedding festivities taking over the space entirely.
Despite the disruption, the congress proceeded outside the hall, where attendees reportedly continued their important discussions and voting activities.
The congress included significant figures in football governance, featuring a FIFA Technical Representative, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Sports, and various representatives from the West African Football Union (WAFU).
Key personnel present included the Acting SLFA Secretary General, Mr. Mohamed Benson Bawoh, and SLFA President, Mr. Thomas Daddy Brima.
The session was closely monitored by a strong security presence led by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sylvester Momoh N. Koroma of the Sierra Leone Police, ensuring the safety of all involved.
The unexpected disruption has raised eyebrows among supporters of the sport, many of whom are calling for an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.
One concerned supporter expressed frustration, stating, “They should investigate the organizers of the Congress. With all the millions of dollars being given by FIFA/CAF and other bodies, these are the same individuals crying down Isha. They’re worse.”
