Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, last Saturday, took the kick-off for the start of the Women’s Premier League at the Southern Arena in Bo.
In her opening remarks, she said: “I am happy and elated to be here as a woman and as the Minister of Sports to take the kick-off in the first match between Ram Kay and Mogbwemo Queens in the presence of sports authorities and Government officials. It means a lot to me; it shows women are now deeply involved in football.”
She added: “From what I saw, both teams played well. Congratulations to Mogbwemo Queens and better luck next time to Ram Kay FC. To the organizers, thanks for a job well done.
From our First Lady H.E Dr.Fatima Bio, because of busy schedules, She can’t come, but She is in support of the league and will watch the grand final by God’s grace.
“From our hard working and dynamic President H.E JMB, who loves football so much, congratulations to the organizers and wish the various female teams taking part all the best of luck. Our government is always ready to give financial support so long you are doing well and making the people happy.
“To the government officials and sports authorities, thanks for gracing the opening match. Hope you will continue to watch the various matches during the competition and also give financial support. Thanks to our hard working and dynamic brother Babadi Kamara for creating this beautiful modern stadium for the development of sports in the country.”
Positive statements were made by the Regional Minister South, Mohamed Alie, Mr. Mohamed K. Turay Assistant Director representing the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, NSA Boss Dr. Kenneth Brima, and Premier League Board Chairman, Victor Lewis.
They told the public about government’s financial support towards football development and congratulated the Women’s Premier League Board Members for a job well done.
Chairlady of the Board Catherine Sillah expressed thanks to Madam Minister, government officials and sports authorities for honoring their invitation and hoped they will continue to watch the various matches across the country.
“The league has started peaceful and it will end peaceful,” she assured Madam Minister and the other authorities present.
