Sierra Leone’s Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima on Wednesday visited the Leone Stars training camp at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Academy in Freetown.
Her visit aimed to boost the morale of the national team as they intensify preparations for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau and Egypt, scheduled for March 20 and 25, respectively.
Also present were SLFA Vice President 1, Harold Nat-Johnson, Acting General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh, Deputy Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, Dr. Abdulrahaman Swarray, and National Sports Ambassador Charlie Bio Jr.
In her address, Madam James-Teima congratulated newly appointed Leone Stars Head Coach Mohamed Kallon on his appointment, reaffirming the government’s full support in ensuring Sierra Leone’s success on the international stage. She encouraged the players to stay committed and work hard, reminding them that they have the honor and responsibility of representing over six million Sierra Leoneans.
In response, Head Coach Mohamed Kallon expressed his gratitude to the Minister for taking the time to visit the team. He emphasized the positive impact of her visit on the players’ motivation, reassuring everyone of his unwavering commitment to the job. Kallon also called on the Ministry of Sports, the National Sports Authority, and the Sierra Leone Football Association for their continued support, assuring the nation that he and his squad will give their all to make Sierra Leone proud on the global stage.
Sierra Leone currently sits in 4th position in Group A with 5 points, behind Egypt, Guinea-Bissau, and Burkina Faso, after four matches played in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. With crucial matches ahead, the Leone Stars will face Guinea-Bissau on March 20 and Egypt on March 25, as they aim to improve their standing in the group and keep their World Cup dreams alive.
