A Sierra Leonean designer identifying himself on X as Barrie Baxter Baggins is on the verge of designing a seamless cash swapping app.
The app would integrate mobile money transfer from Orange Money, Afrimoney and Qmoney –three of the largest mobile money cash transfer platforms in Sierra Leone.
The concept, once completed, will allow “instant transfer” of cash from either of the aforementioned platforms to the other swiftly.
“This is to help with hunting down of agents and merchants who only offer one form of mobile payment,” Barrie said on his X.
The app will allow users of multiple mobile money transfer accounts to transfer money swiftly. Currently, mobile money users cannot transfer money from one platform to the other –a situation that sometimes disadvantage some customers.
Mobile money is now a big business in the African continent with many customers maximising the flexibility of its platforms. With at least three million Sierra Leoneans with access to mobile phone, most prefer banking with mobile money platforms than banks.
One of Africa’s largest mobile money transfer companies, Orange Money operates in the West African country with over two million customers. The company records thousands of transactions each thereby providing an easy way of cash transfer to the most remote parts of the country.
Orange Money has already contacted the designer of the concept for possible partnership. In a public post on X, the mobile company wrote,
“Hi @ManCalledBarrie, That sounds like an amazing feature that could make mobile payments much more convenient for everyone! Feel free to DM us, and we can explore how we could collaborate to bring such ideas to life.
Best regards, Orange Customer Support.”
Orange Money operates its own app but this interest from them could help breath life into the concept thereby providing locals with an innovative and easy-to-use mobile money app.
