The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in Kenema City have conducted a targeted operation that disrupted several key drug distribution points.

The coordinated raid, carried out on Friday, July 25, 2025, was led by Chief Superintendent Alphonso Ambulai Fahnbulleh, Local Unit Commander for the Kenema Division, with support from Superintendent Gibril Kamara of the Operational Support Division (OSD), and Inspector Mohammed Corneh, Operations Officer for the division.

According to police, the operation formed part of a broader strategy aimed at tackling growing concerns about the impact of illicit drugs on public safety and community wellbeing.

Law enforcement confirmed that ten suspects were arrested during the exercise for various offenses, including unlawful possession and other drug-related activities. All individuals are currently in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations.

Chief Superintendent Fahnbuleh emphasized the division’s determination to combat the spread of drugs in the area. “Our mission is to rid Kenema City of substances that destroy lives and threaten future generations,” he said. “We will continue to act decisively against anyone involved in illegal drug activities.”

The operation reportedly targeted areas identified as major hubs for drug distribution. While specific locations were not disclosed, police described the raids as strategic and effective, with several known sales points dismantled.

Local residents have expressed support for the police initiative. Community members say drug-related activity has contributed to social challenges in recent years, including youth involvement in crime. One resident, identified as Madam Katimu from Blama Road, shared her perspective: “Drugs have caused so much pain in our communities. We pray this fight continues until our children are safe again.”

The SLP has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and has assured the public that anti-drug operations in Kenema and surrounding areas will continue as part of an ongoing campaign to curb narcotics trafficking and use.

No reports of injuries or violence during the raid were issued, and police have called on community members to support efforts by reporting suspicious activities.

Authorities say additional operations are being planned, and the public will be updated as investigations and enforcement efforts continue.
