A 27-year-old IT specialist from Sierra Leone, Akim Toure, was shot and killed on Sunday night, August 3, 2025, outside the YOTEL hotel in Northwest Washington, D.C., in the United States.

The incident reportedly occurred around 11 p.m. at a parking garage located on the 400 block of New Jersey Avenue NW.

According to police reports, officers found Toure suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities have launched a search for the suspect, described as a Black male with dreadlocks, wearing a white shirt and shorts, and driving a black sedan, possibly a Honda. Police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument over a woman during a pool party at the hotel.

Toure’s family is devastated by the loss. His mother expressed her grief, stating, “I want justice for my son, justice for my son.” Family members described Toure as a caring individual who had come to the United States from Sierra Leone as a child.

His cousin, Alexcia Bobb-Williams, highlighted his dedication to his family and career, saying, “He wasn’t a bad guy at all. If you go on his LinkedIn, he is a corporate guy. He works for so many IT companies.”

Bobb-Williams added that Toure was shot while trying to protect a woman involved in the altercation. “We don’t even know the girl that he was standing up for,” she lamented. “It’s crazy because it’s literally a couple of minutes from the Capitol, and there is a fire station literally right next to it.”

In a statement, YOTEL management confirmed their cooperation with police during the investigation, noting that the shooting took place on the sidewalk in front of the parking garage adjacent to the hotel.

Toure’s family shared that he was always looking for ways to support them, often attending conventions to enhance his skills. His father had passed away a few years prior, leaving Toure as a key figure in his family’s life.
