A prominent Sierra Leonean businessman, Adekalie Conteh, has been remanded at the Freetown Correctional Centre following his court appearance on Thursday, 7 August 2025.

According to report, his arrest is in connection with a violent disturbance that resulted in the death of one individual and significant property damage in Tokeh Village earlier this year.

Conteh is facing multiple charges, including the alleged murder of Andrew Mansaray, stemming from an incident that occurred on 16 February 2025, in the coastal community located along the Freetown Peninsula.

During the preliminary hearing before Magistrate John Manso Fornah, the court heard testimony from Francis Lebbie, a local businessman who claimed to have witnessed the incident.

Lebbie testified that Conteh arrived at the scene in a tricycle accompanied by a group of young men armed with machetes, knives, and broken bottles, admitting that the group proceeded to vandalize several business establishments and personal property in the area.

Lebbie alleged that he fled the scene out of fear and later learned that a man identified as Andrew Mansaray, had been killed near his shop. His testimony was supported by a police statement, which was admitted into evidence as Exhibits F1-15.

The defense counsel, J. Fofanah, began a cross-examination of the witness but requested more time to continue the process.

Due to the seriousness of the charges, Magistrate Fornah denied Conteh bail and ordered his continued detention at the Freetown Correctional Centre.

The case has been adjourned to 14 August 2025 for further cross-examination and continuation of the preliminary investigation. Judicial proceedings are ongoing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to commit the case to the High Court for trial.
