The Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Economic and Commercial Counseling Center of the Sierra Leonean embassy in Guangzhou, China, aimed at empowering the youth of Sierra Leone.
This significant agreement includes the provision of 500 electric cars, 1,000 bikes, and 500 tricycles, alongside the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility for technical training in electric vehicles.
Minister Sannoh emphasized the initiative’s importance for developing a skilled workforce to support the burgeoning electric vehicle industry in Sierra Leone. He stated that the support is expected to drive economic growth and improve living standards for the youth.
“This initiative aligns with the President’s ‘Big 5’ game changers focused on youth employment and human capital development,” Sannoh noted. The signing of this MOU also reaffirms the strong bilateral cooperation between Sierra Leone and China.
Minister Sannoh further asserted, “It is the responsibility of us public officials to encourage responsible investment in Sierra Leone for our growing youth population.” He underscored the need for infrastructure and industrial projects to be paired with human resource development and skills transfer to ensure sustainable progress.
