The Volleyball Federation of Sierra Leone (VFSL) has launched a six-month Development of National Sport Structure (DNSS) project aimed at strengthening volleyball management, coaching, refereeing, and athlete development nationwide.
The initiative commenced with a one-day seminar for regional technical directors and general secretaries on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the National Olympic Committee (NOC) headquarters in Freetown. Supported by the NOC, the project is intended to address gaps in event management, marketing, and administration while building a more structured foundation for the sport.
VFSL President Ahmed Khanou said the program is designed to ensure that athletes, referees, coaches, and administrators receive targeted training to clarify their roles in advancing volleyball in Sierra Leone.
The DNSS project will be implemented in five phases:
- Capacity Building: Identification and training of referees, coaches, administrators, and athletes.
-
International Expertise: A technical expert from Canada or Austria will conduct training in Bo and Kenema.
-
Local Coaching Leadership: Led by Level 3 certified coach Sorie Kamara, with sessions in Port Loko and Makeni.
-
Equipment Procurement: Distribution of standard volleyball equipment to each region.
-
Inter-Regional Championship: To be held in February 2026.
Khanou encouraged participation from physical health education (PHE) teachers, sports enthusiasts, and experienced volleyball figures, noting that the project’s success depends on collaboration among stakeholders.
