The Minister of Internal Affairs, David Maurice Lengor, convened a high-level security meeting on Saturday, August 30, with senior police commanders in Bo to address the alarming rise of armed robbery in the city and its surrounding areas.
This marks the first time a minister has held such a strategic security session in the Southern Region.
The meeting, held at the Regional Police Headquarters, was hosted by the Regional Police Commander for the South, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Brima Kanneh, with support from his deputy, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Fatmata Jebeh Daboh Kamara.
Commanders from the Bo West and Bo East Police Divisions, along with other key unit heads, provided updates on crime trends, challenges, and potential solutions within their jurisdictions.
In his address, Minister Lengor called armed robbery “a grave threat to public safety, peace, and economic progress.” He urged police to intensify intelligence-led operations, emphasizing that as the nation’s second-largest city, Bo must remain a safe hub for business and daily life. T
he Minister also pledged the government’s support, promising to explore additional logistical and capacity-building resources to enhance operational efficiency.
AIG Brima Kanneh assured the minister that the police are committed to confronting the challenge. He outlined current strategies, including strengthening community policing, improving rapid response systems, and maintaining discipline within the force.
ACP Fatmata Jebeh Daboh Kamara also affirmed the regional command’s resolve to collaborate with divisional leaders and community stakeholders to combat the surge in violent crime. The meeting concluded with a clear message to criminals that police are determined to dismantle their networks and restore public confidence in security.
