The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) has confirmed receipt of a formal complaint from former Vice President Chief Alhaji Samuel Sam-Sumana against the ruling All People’s Congress (APC).
The complaint, submitted in a detailed five-page letter on Wednesday, 3rd September 2015, ahead of his official press conference, raises concerns about his bid to contest the party’s leadership and flagbearer position.
In an interview with Liberty online TV, PPRC Executive Secretary Olushogo A. David provided insights into the submission, noting that the letter included evidence of payments made by Chief Sam-Sumana to clear previously owed party dues. These payments, he said, were intended to settle all outstanding obligations within the APC, supporting the former Vice President’s eligibility to pursue leadership roles.
Speaking on the matter, Mr. David clarified the PPRC’s role in such disputes, emphasizing that the commission only intervenes in the internal affairs of political parties when their rules or actions conflict with the national constitution.
“The PPRC’s mandate is to ensure that political parties operate within the bounds of the law. We do not interfere with internal party mechanisms unless they contradict constitutional provisions,” he said.
